Atlanta, GA – 1 Person Taken Into Custody After A Chase Vehicle Crashes Into A Pole

September 5, 2023

Atlanta, GA (Sept. 5, 2023) – According to Georgia State Patrol, a brief pursuit on Monday afternoon resulted in a car colliding with a utility pole and several people fleeing the vehicle.

Just before 2:30 p.m. on Labor Day, troopers responded to what they verified to be “an active scene” in southeast Atlanta. Jonesboro Road and Thayer Avenue SE were the locations of the Georgia State Patrol. A section of Jonesboro Road was blocked off, and at least two state patrol cars were in the area.

At Fair Drive on Interstate 75/85, troopers attempted to stop a vehicle. According to GSP, the driver allegedly failed to stop when a trooper used his lights and sirens. Instead, the vehicle made a turn onto Jonesboro Road, which sparked a chase.

At Thayer Avenue, the driver collided with a utility pole. According to troopers, three occupants of the car fled, but the driver was caught.

GSP did not provide an explanation for why the driver was detained or why the troopers were pursuing the vehicle. The other occupants of the car were not mentioned by the authorities in any way.

Single Vehicle Accidents in Georgia

Any accident that results in damage to just one vehicle is referred to as a “single-vehicle accident.” Even if another driver contributed to the accident, it is considered a single-vehicle accident if your crash involves only your vehicle and no one else’s.

One example of a single-vehicle accident is when a driver loses control of their vehicle and collides with a stop sign. It is still considered a single-vehicle accident even if someone pulls out in front of you and causes you to swerve off the road and crash into a tree rather than collide with their vehicle. An accident involving only one vehicle might cause damage to property, but it will only involve that one vehicle.

Although the driver who crashes is usually at fault in a single-vehicle accident, it is not always the case. There are times when another driver may be to blame for you losing control and crashing your vehicle. If this happens to you, you may be able to recover damages from the responsible party. Knowing your rights after a single-vehicle accident can make a huge difference for a deserving victim.

Another driver could be held responsible if they pulled out in front of you, and instead of colliding with them, you crashed into a tree. Perhaps another vehicle swerved into your lane, forcing you to take evasive action. Perhaps your accident was caused by a vehicle malfunction rather than anything you did wrong. These are all very real scenarios in which you may not be held responsible for a single-vehicle accident.

If you are not responsible for the damage that occurred, you have the right to seek compensation from the party who caused it. It’s possible that one of the other drivers on the road is to blame, but it could also be the manufacturer of the vehicle.

If another person’s negligence causes you to be in a car accident, they may be held liable for your injuries even if you never hit them. A person can be negligent without necessarily being present at the time of the crash. In that case, you can still file a claim against them and seek compensation for your losses.
