Cobb County, Georgia (April 18, 2023) - Tuesday morning, two people were killed in a collision that shut down most of Interstate 75 in Cobb County.

The collision occurred around 5:15 a.m. on I-75's northbound lanes near Delk Road.

According to the Marietta Police Department, a 21-year-old Marietta woman was driving a 2015 Honda Civic when she got a flat tire and came to a stop in the far-left lane.

A 2016 Toyota Rav 4 driven by a 59-year-old Jonesboro man collided with the Honda and spun out of control.

Both drivers exited their vehicles and were struck by a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 72-year-old man from Wolcottville, Indiana.

Both drivers who were struck by the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. The 79-year-old man and his passenger were taken to WellStar Kenneston with minor injuries.

Although five vehicles were initially reported to be involved, the fourth and fifth vehicles only sustained minor damage while driving through the debris field.

As crews worked at the scene, the crash shut down multiple northbound lanes on the interstate. Since then, the interstate has been reopened.

More information about the crash will be released as the investigation continues, according to officials.

Fatal Accidents in Georgia

Deaths in motor vehicle accidents are tragic events that can have far-reaching consequences not only for the individuals involved but also for their families and communities. A fatal accident can be devastating emotionally and financially.

Intoxicated driving, distracted driving, excessive speeding, and reckless behavior are all risk factors for fatal vehicle accidents. These types of collisions are usually avoidable if traffic laws are followed, proper attention to the road is paid, and responsible driving is practiced.

When a person dies in an accident caused by the negligence of another driver, the surviving family has the legal right to sue the negligent driver for wrongful death. In order to seek justice, the deceased's family will be able to seek monetary compensation for the loss of their loved one.

Although no amount of money can ever compensate for the loss of a loved one, the system exists to assist the family in recovering financially from the tragic accident and to hold the negligent party accountable for their actions.

If someone you care about dies as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident, the first thing you should do is discuss what happened with an experienced Wrongful Death Lawyer. This will assist you in determining whether you are legally entitled to file a compensation claim.

Handling a wrongful death claim or negotiating with an insurance company on your own can be extremely difficult. If you do not have a lawyer on your side, the insurance company will either try to settle the case for the lowest possible amount or simply refuse to pay anything.

When you hire an attorney to help with your claim, they will make certain that you are compensated for the following:

  • Funeral and burial expenses.
  • Any outstanding medical bills.
  • The loss of your loved one’s future income.
  • Pain and suffering.
  • Loss of earning capacity.
  • Loss of consortium.
  • Loss of caregiving capacity.
  • Grief and emotional trauma.

If you have lost a loved one in a car accident, you should contact a Wrongful Death Lawyer as soon as possible. These attorneys have the experience and resources to help you understand your legal options and pursue a compensation claim.
