Gwinnett County, Georgia (April 9, 2023) - According to the department, a Gwinnett County police officer was involved in a fatal accident that killed a pedestrian early Sunday morning. The investigation has been turned over to the Georgia State Patrol.

The officer, who has not been identified, was driving down Brook Hollow Parkway near the Mitchell Road intersection. According to the department, he hit a pedestrian who was walking in the roadway around 3:30 a.m.

When the officer hit the victim, he jumped out of his car and tried to help, according to officials. The pedestrian was killed as a result of his injuries.

The victim was identified as a 48-year-old man from Lawrenceville. 

The unnamed officer suffered from a minor injury.

The Georgia State Patrol will investigate the incident because an officer was involved.
